The Skill-Up Imo Programme is a free and comprehensive youth empowerment initiative launched by the Imo State Government to combat unemployment, and boost digital literacy. Under the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodinma and the guidance of Hon. Dr. Chimezie Paulinus Amadi, the Imo State Commissioner for Digital Economy and e-Government, the program is designed to uplift thousands of young people by empowering them with in demand digital skills.
The empowerment of women has also been a priority under the current administration. On September 20, 2023, Imo State’s First Lady, Chioma Uzodimma, launched a significant women’s empowerment initiative aimed at uplifting 1,575 women across various sectors. This initiative focused on providing support for small-scale businesses, agricultural cooperatives, and other income-generating ventures.
In 2022, Governor Uzodimma introduced a comprehensive industrial policy in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to promote SMEs. This policy is part of a broader strategy to industrialize the state, focusing on key sectors such as agro-industry, digital economy, and renewable energy.
The focus on sectors such as agro-industry, digital economy, and renewable energy under Governor Uzodimma's industrial policy aligns with the state's vision of becoming an industrialized, self-sustaining economy.
To further solidify these efforts, the governor appointed Hon. Godson Dibe as the Special Adviser on Empowerment on July 10, 2024. This appointment underscores the government's commitment to poverty reduction and improving the welfare of citizens. Hon. Dibe’s role is central to expanding both local and international partnerships, ensuring that the state’s empowerment programs continue to have a lasting, positive impact on the residents of Imo State.
The Imo State Government has commenced yet another empowerment program for the Youths of Imo State and this time, a Master Class Training on Agro Farm. The training which is aimed at equipping our Youths with resources necessary to venture into the Agricultural industry on commercial basis, is a pet project from the Office of the Imo State Governor, Youth Affairs. Industry specialists and resourceful entrepreneurs have been engaged for this purpose.
